AnxOS
A small 32-bit x86 operating system built from scratch, with its own desktop.
The project
An operating system, from the boot sector up.
AnxOS is a small 32-bit x86 operating system that boots from a raw disk image under BIOS/QEMU. Version 2.0 landed AnxDesk, a native graphical desktop built on the 1.9 IPC and window-system foundation.
Local release reports document the boot chain, a protected-mode kernel, bounded IPC endpoints, Ring 3 userspace, the AnxFS 1.5 filesystem, and PCI storage and network drivers. Version 2.2 modernizes the block-storage path with an AHCI/DMA driver while keeping the legacy ATA path as an automatic fallback.
What it explores
- BIOS boot chain and protected-mode kernel
- Bounded IPC, capabilities, and Ring 3 userspace
- AnxDesk desktop, window server, and AnxFS 1.5
- PCI, AHCI, and e1000 drivers under QEMU
- Reproducible image builds with recorded hashes
Where it stands
Version 2.2 is recorded by local release reports with reproducible image hashes and security-review documents alongside them. AnxDesk landed in 2.0. No public release or repository is confirmed, so none is offered here.
In the ecosystem
Shares the AnxOS name with AnxOS Control Center; the two are separate systems in this catalog. The Control Center manages Debian-based homelab nodes, while this project is a from-scratch x86 operating system.
